Chris was a Parish Councillor in Pitminster from 1985 - 89 and a Blackdown Ward Borough Councillor from 1989 to 1999. 

He was Chairman of the Tree Management Committee from 1995-99 and Chairman of the Environmental Health Programme Committee. He was a member of the Planning, Environmental Services (Public Health) and Environmental Strategy committee.
